Oscar Predictions: Best Original Screenplay
- The Hurt Locker
- Inglourious Basterds
- The Messenger
- A Serious Man
I have nothing against the other three nominees, but this one really comes down to The Hurt Locker vs. Inglourious Basterds. These two have positioned themselves as the two frontrunners for “Best Picture” and what happens here could go a long way toward determining who wins that award. I’ll give you my prediction for that award in a few days.
The early season awards have practically been split right down the middle between The Hurt Locker‘s Mark Boal and Quentin Tarantino of Inglourious Basterds. Just to name a few, Boal got the BAFTA and Writers Guild awards, while Tarantino took home the Critic’s Choice award.
I think the Academy is going to lean towards Tarantino in this category. He is a more established name, and he’s earned quite a reputation over the years. Now, will this hurt or help his chances of winning “Best Director” and “Best Picture?” I’ll explain my thoughts on that in the coming days.
Prediction: Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds
