Quick Thoughts: Zombieland

Zombieland (Ruben Fleischer, 2009)

With Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

I enjoyed this one when I saw it in theaters, and I watched it again over the weekend just to see how it would hold up to repeat viewings.  I can honestly say that I enjoyed it just as much the second time around.  Zombieland is funny, gory and surprisingly touching.  At right around 85 minutes, the movie seems to move a little slow for a film of its genre but it does feature some impressive character depth and development.  The opening credit sequence is one of the most entertaining I can recall, thanks in part to the inclusion of some classic Metallica.  Harrelson is hilarious, and Eisenberg is really coming into his own as a superstar in the making.  I truthfully think that Eisenberg will have more staying power than Michael Cera, who he has often been compared to since his breakout in The Squid and the Whale.

Rating: 7/10

RIYL: Shaun of the Dead, Daybreakers, Grosse Pointe Blank.
